60%: No U.S. moon base
Republicans, Democrats, and independents are united in opposing presidential candidate Newt Gingrich’s proposal that the U.S. establish a permanent moon base during this decade.
Implementing Gingrich’s moon base idea would likely cost tens of billions of dollars – a sky-high expense proposition that triggered ridicule from GOP presidential candidate rival Mitt Romney as well as other Republicans, Democrats, and independents.
Republicans: 53% oppose, 28% support, 19% no opinion.
Democrats: 66% oppose, 17% support, 17% no opinion.
Independents: 63% oppose, 20% support, 17% no opinion.

Poll Position’s scientific telephone survey of 1,186 registered voters nationwide was conducted January 29, 2012 and has a margin of error of ±3%. Poll results are weighted to be a representative sampling of all American adults.
