Fair to brand some media “elite”?

Americans are divided on the question of whether or not it is OK to call some journalists or media outlets, “the media elite”. In a Poll Position-TV Newser national scientific survey 36% said it is unfair to brand some in the media as “elite”, 35% said it is fair to brand some journalists and media outlets as “elite”, 28% did not offer an opinion on the question.

Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich has frequently attacked the media, saying “the media elite” does not properly hold President Barack Obama accountable. Gingrich also chastised CNN’s John King and Fox News Commentator Juan Williams during separate debates in South Carolina. Gingrich said the questions King and Williams asked were sensational in nature and had nothing to do with the important issues America and the presidential candidates are facing. Gingrich also attacks “the media elite” in his campaign speeches.

Poll Position’s scientific telephone survey of 1,113 registered voters nationwide was conducted January 24, 2012 and has a margin of error of ±3%. Poll results are weighted to be a representative sampling of all American adults.
