Who is a stronger leader?
There is a dead heat among two of the Republican Presidential candidates. Not for the nomination, but for who you think is the strongest leader. In a Poll Position national scientific telephone survey we asked, between the two leading Republican candidates for President, who do you think is a stronger leader, Newt Gingrich or Mitt Romney. It was a tie with Gingrich and Romney both the choice of 33% of our respondents. However, 34% did not offer an opinion on who was the strongest leader between Gingrich or Romney.
Gingrich was the choice among Republicans with 45% saying he is the strongest leader, 38% said Romney is the strongest leader, 17% did not offer an opinion. Independents favored Gingrich as a stronger leader by a smaller margin with 31% choosing Gingrich, 28% thought Romney was the stronger leader of the two, but 42% of Independents did not offer and opinion, or have not made up their mind on the question.
Men and women differed on the question. Among women, 36% said Romney was the strongest leader, 27% thought Gingrich was, however a large number of women, 37% did not have an opinion or had not made up their minds. Men countered with 39% thinking Gingrich was a stronger leader between the two, 29% chose Romney, but again, a large number or men, 32% had no opinion or had not made up their minds on the leadership question.
Poll Position’s scientific telephone survey of 1,113 registered voters nationwide was conducted January 24, 2012 and has a margin of error of ±3%. Poll results are weighted to be a representative sampling of all American adults.
