Academy Awards or Grammys?
And the winner is…..not excited about either! In a Poll Position national scientific telephone survey we asked, are you more excited about watching the television broadcast of the Academy Awards, or the Grammy Awards? A majority of Americans, 55% told us they were not excited about either. Of those who were excited to watch, 26% picked the Academy Awards show, 16% chose the Grammys, 3% did not have an opinion.
As you can see in the crosstabs below, almost every category said they ere not excited about watching either awards show. Of those who were excited, the Academy Awards won out in all categories with the exception of African-Americans, Hispanics and Democrats. Those three groups said they were more excited about watching the Grammys over the Academy Awards.
African-Americans chose the Grammys by a 29% to 19% margin over the Oscars, Hispanics went for the Grammys by a 40% to 23% margin over the Academy Awards, and 31% of Democrats said they were more excited about the Grammys versus 29% who said they were more excited about watching the Academy Awards.
Academy Awards were favored strongly by Whites and Republicans. Among whites, 27% said they were excited about watching the Academy Awards show over 9% choosing the Grammys. Republicans weighed in with 25% saying they were excited about the Oscars over 9% expressing excitement over watching the Grammys.
Poll Position’s scientific telephone survey of 1,113 registered voters nationwide was conducted January 24, 2012 and has a margin of error of ±3%. Poll results are weighted to be a representative sampling of all American adults.
