America’s grade for TSA: “C”

The controversial U.S. Transportation Security Administration – responsible for security at the nation’s airports – receives an unimpressive performance grade of “C” from the American people.

Poll Position asked Americans to grade the TSA’s performance after a highly-publicized incident Monday in which Senator Rand Paul refused a TSA patdown search at the Nashville airport.  He is the son of presidential candidate and Texas Congressman Ron Paul, who, like his son, is a fierce critic of the TSA.

Our scientific national public opinion poll Tuesday put this question to Americans: How do you rate the performance of the Transportation Security Administration, with “A” being the best grade possible, “B” being good, “C” being acceptable, “D” being poor, and “F” being a failure?

Overall, 7% of Americans said “A,” 17% said “B,” 35% “C,” 17% D,” 12% “F,” 15% no opinion.

Republicans and independents tougher on the TSA than Democrats

Republicans: “A” 5%, “B” 12%, “C” 31%, “D” 25%, “F” 13%, no opinion 15%.

Democrats: “A” 10%, “B” 23%, “C” 44%, “D” 25%, “F,” no opinion 13%.

Independents: “A” 8%, “B” 15%, “C” 30%, “D” 20%, “F” 18%, no opinion 11%.

Poll Position’s scientific telephone survey of 1,113 registered voters nationwide was conducted January 24, 2012 and has a margin of error of ±3%. Poll results are weighted to be a representative sampling of all American adults.
