Make money for pics of newborn?
With news of the birth of baby girl Blue Ivy to singer Beyonce and rapper Jay-Z, the big question is when will we see a picture of the newborn. In a Poll Position national scientific telephone survey we asked, do you think Beyonce and Jay-Z should make money for a photo of their newborn baby? The answer was no for 48% of Americans, 18% said the couple should make money on a photo of Blue Ivy, 35% did not have an opinion.
It is not yet clear if Beyonce and Jay-Z will release photos of Blue Ivy or if they will seek to strike a deal to sell pictures of the newborn. What is clear is pictures of celebrity babies is big business. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie reportedly got an eight-figure payday for exclusive pictures of their twins, Vivienne Marcheline and Knox Leon, in 2008. Experts think a photo of Blue Ivy will fetch a six figure sum to the photographer who gets it.
African-Americans and young people were most in favor of the power couple making money for photos of their baby. Among African-Amerians, 41% said Beyonce and Jay-Z should make money for baby pics, 37% said they should not, 22% did not offer an opinion.
Young people, in the 18-29 year old age group, weighed in with 30% saying the couple should make money for photos of Blue Ivy, 40% said they should not, 30% did not have an opinion.
Older Americans and Democrats were most against Beyonce and Jay-Z profiting from pictures of their newborn. Among Americans 65 and over, 53% said they should not make money for baby photos, only 6% said they should, 41% did not have an opinion.
Democrats were against the money making idea by a 55% to 15% margin. Thirty percent did not offer an opinion.
Poll Position’s scientific telephone survey of 1,076 registered voters nationwide was conducted January 10, 2012 and has a margin of error of ±3%. Poll results are weighted to be a representative sampling of all American adults.
