Most useful second language?
Do you speak Spanish or Chinese?
If not, you might want to consider studying one of them because Americans believe those are the top two languages that would be most useful to learn as a second language.
Spanish is the favorite by a huge margin. Sixty percent of Americans say Spanish is the most useful second language for us to learn. Chinese rated 14%, Arabic 4%, French 4%, German 3%, Japanese 2%, some other language 6%. Eight percent of respondents had no opinion on the question.
Poll Position’s scientific telephone survey of 1,155 registered voters nationwide was conducted January 5, 2012 and has a margin of error of ±3%. Poll results are weighted to be a representative sampling of all American adults.
