Confess: Ever re-gifted a present?

A majority of women do not have a problem with it. Half of the men asked do. We are talking about re-gifting a present to someone, or taking a gift you received from someone and then giving that gift as a present to someone else. In a Poll Position national scientific telephone survey we asked if you have ever done that. In a near even split, 45% said they have re-gifted a present, 44% have not, 12% did not have an opinion.

Among women, 52% have re-gifted, 37% said they have not, with 11% not having an opinion. Men differed with 50% saying they have never re-gifted a present, 37% said they have, and 13% did not have an opinion.

Hispanics have re-gifted the most with 65% saying they have given a present to someone else that was originally given to them, 18% said they have not, 17% did not have an opinion. Americans in the 30-44 year old group were the largest re-gifters by age, with 56% saying they have done it, 37% said they have not re-gifted, 7% did not have an opinion.

Most against re-gifting were African-Americans and Americans in the 65 and over age group. Among African-Americans, 56% said they have never re-gifted, 31% said they have, 13% did not have an opinion. Of the 65 and over group, 56% said they have not re-gifted, 26% said they have done it, 18% had no opinion on the question.

Poll Position’s scientific telephone survey of 1,139 registered voters nationwide was conducted December 18, 2011 and has a margin of error of ±3%. Poll results are weighted to be a representative sampling of all American adults.
