Believe in God?
Americans left little doubt on the question “Do you believe in God?” In a Poll Position scientific national telephone survey, 81% said they believe in God with 8% saying they do not and 11% having no opinion.
Republicans, the elderly, men and whites led the way in saying they believe in God. Among Republicans 92% believe in God with only 5% saying they do not.
In the 65 and over category 85% said they believe in God versus just 5% who do not. Eighty-four percent of men believe in God to only 6% who don’t and among whites 83% believe in God while just 7% do not.
The group with the lowest number of believers was Independents with 71% saying they believe in God, 9% saying they don’t and 20% having no opinion.
Poll Position’s scientific telephone survey of 1,069 adults nationwide was conducted October 2, 2011 and has a margin of error of ±3%.
