Our polling methodology
Our polls are conducted in two ways: scientific polls that reflect a representative demographic sampling of the American people, and online polling, which reflect the views of Poll Position users voting online.
Our scientific polling is conducted by Poll Position partner Majority Opinion Research (MOR). We uphold the highest standards of integrity and transparency in our scientific polling and reporting. PollPosition and MOR adhere to the terms of the National Council on Public Polls’s Principles of Disclosure and subscribe to the terms of the American Association for Public Opinion Research’s Code of Professional Ethics and Practices. Results of each scientific Poll Position survey are disclosed with accompanying crosstabs detailing survey methodology and the demographic breakdown of poll participants. Poll Position and Majority Opinion Research’s scientific survey methodology:
A random sample of adult Americans is surveyed by interactive voice response (IVR) calls to landline and opt-in cell phones. At least 1,000 interviews are conducted each evening. Calls are made from 6:00pm to 9:00pm local time in each time zone. Quotas are set for each time zone to assure national representation. Data are weighted by age, race, and gender. Questions of a political nature are additionally weighted by political party affiliation.
Each scientific poll is accompanied by an unscientific online survey, giving all Poll Position users an opportunity to vote on that topic, with users also able to comment on all polls topics. Online survey results are clearly labeled as unscientific, reflecting the views of participating Poll Position users.
